Investment Program Brings Sustainable Housing to West Central Indiana

THRIVE West Central has allocated $952,000 for the READI Homes for the Future program, aiming to enhance sustainable housing options in West Central Indiana. This initiative is set to bring 130 new housing units to the region by October 1, 2025.
Among the recipients of this funding are Southard Homes LLC, which will develop 15 modern, single-family, age-friendly homes in the City of Terre Haute. These homes are expected to retail for around $140,000 each. Additionally, Southard Homes LLC will create ten larger, modern single-family homes in the Terre Vista project. These homes will be priced between $370,000 and $400,000 each.
Southard Homes LCC is also part of the program and plans to build 17 single-family homes with detached garages in the Southard Acres West project. These age-friendly homes will retail for approximately $225,000.
Emmert Group Properties has been awarded funding for their Windbreaker Flats project. This new apartment development in Brazil, Clay County’s largest city, will consist of 48 age-friendly apartments with one to two bedrooms. The investment in this project amounts to $3.82 million.
Lastly, New Directions Housing Corporation will bring 40 modern, age-friendly apartments to the City of Terre Haute through their River Valley Apartments project. This development is specifically designed for seniors who wish to age in place and is conveniently located near the Union Hospital campus. The total investment in this project is estimated to be $12.3 million.
These projects aim to address the growing need for sustainable housing options in West Central Indiana, providing affordable and age-friendly homes for individuals and families in the region.
