Dodgers Show Improvement at Humboldt Invitational

In a competitive tournament, the Fort Dodge volleyball team showcased their growth and improvement as they competed in the Humboldt Invitational. The Dodgers finished the day with a 3-3 record, gaining valuable on-court experience. South Hardin emerged as the tournament champions with a perfect 6-0 record.
The Dodgers secured victories against Grand View Christian, South Central Calhoun, and Spirit Lake. They displayed their skills and determination, winning each match with scores of 21-18, 21-12 against Grand View Christian, 18-21, 21-13, 15-12 against South Central Calhoun, and 21-12, 21-16 against Spirit Lake.
However, the team also faced some tough competition and suffered losses against South Hardin, Humboldt, and Kuemper. Despite these setbacks, FDSH head coach Lexi Astor expressed pride in the team’s growth and response to pressure. Astor acknowledged that it is still early in the season and the girls are working on finding their groove.
Humboldt and South Central Calhoun also had successful performances at the invitational. Humboldt secured victories against Grand View Christian and Spirit Lake with scores of 21-18, 14-21, 15-12 and 12-21, 22-20, 22-20 respectively. Meanwhile, South Central Calhoun defeated Spirit Lake, Humboldt, and Grand View Christian.
Looking ahead, Fort Dodge is set to open Iowa Alliance Conference play on Tuesday with a home game against Des Moines Lincoln. Astor highlighted that the team’s biggest battle this season will be eliminating their own errors and improving their performance in non-perfect situations. The girls are excited for the home opener to showcase their growth from last year.
