“Professor Meghan Manfra Joins Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life as Research Affiliate for 2023-24”
– Meghan Manfra, a professor of social studies education at NC State College of Education, has become a research affiliate at the Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life (CITAP) for the 2023-24 academic year.
– CITAP, based at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, focuses on understanding the impact of the internet and digital information sharing in various societal contexts, including economics, race, politics, and culture.
In her role as a CITAP affiliate, Meghan Manfra will have the opportunity to collaborate with scholars from around the world and contribute to the center’s multidisciplinary research. She will also participate in research workshops and working groups, attend professional development sessions and symposia, and contribute to CITAP’s podcast.
Manfra’s research expertise lies in media literacy in secondary classrooms, particularly in utilizing historical strategies to enhance modern student media literacy. She is also working with the Library of Congress on integrating digital materials into the classroom and is authoring a book titled “Fight the Fake: Navigating Fake News and Misinformation,” which explores various aspects of society’s relationship with social media.
