– The addition of the hand operator option to the SAFIRA system product range provides anaesthesiologists practicing regional anaesthesia with more versatility and choice.
Medovate, a medical device development company, has announced the official launch of the SAFIRA Palm Operator in Singapore. The Palm Operator, which has secured approval from the Singapore Health Sciences Authority (HSA), offers anaesthesiologists greater choice and versatility when using the innovative SAFIRA system for regional anaesthesia. This new hand operator option complements the existing foot pedal operator and provides full control of aspiration and infusion during the injection process. The expansion of the SAFIRA system product range in Singapore is made possible through the collaboration with Bluestone Corporation Pte, the appointed SAFIRA distributor.
The SAFIRA system was originally introduced in Singapore in 2022 with a foot pedal operator. The Palm Operator features the same color coding as the foot pedal and is designed to fit comfortably under a surgical glove within the palm of a hand. This latest addition to the product range aims to meet the preferences and needs of anaesthesiologists, offering them more flexibility in utilizing the SAFIRA system. Alan Finnerty, technology director at Medovate, expressed excitement about extending their product offering and supporting healthcare providers with a comprehensive solution for regional anaesthesia needs. David Loh, director at Bluestone Corporation Pte, emphasized their pride in supporting the rollout of this new technology in Singapore and providing anaesthesiologists with another option to enhance patient safety during regional anaesthesia procedures.
The SAFIRA system was developed in collaboration with clinicians in the NHS to promote safer injection during peripheral nerve block procedures. It enables regional anaesthesia to be performed by a single person, giving the anaesthesiologist full control over the injection process and freeing up assistants for other tasks. The system incorporates a built-in safety mechanism that limits injection pressure and automatically stops injection at a calibrated pressure threshold, reducing the risk of nerve damage and ensuring patient safety.
With the launch of the SAFIRA Palm Operator in Singapore, Medovate aims to continue its global rollout of the SAFIRA system and provide anaesthesiologists with enhanced options for regional anaesthesia procedures.
