– Tami Manis, a 58-year-old public health nurse from Knoxville, has achieved the title of the world’s longest competitive mullet for a female.
– Her flowing mullet measures 5ft 8in (172.72cm), nearly the height of the average man, and will be featured in the 2024 Guinness World Records book.
Tami Manis, a 58-year-old Tennessee woman, has made history by setting a new Guinness World Record for having the longest competitive mullet among females. Inspired by a music video from the band ‘Til Tuesday, Tami has been rocking her mullet since the 1980s and hasn’t cut her hair in 33 years. Her impressive hairstyle, measuring 5ft 8in (172.72cm), will be recognized in the upcoming 2024 edition of the Guinness World Records book.
Tami’s mullet journey began when she watched the music video for the song “Voices Carry” four decades ago. She was captivated by the girl’s rattail and decided to cut her hair into a mullet. However, after regretting it, she started growing it back in February 1990 and hasn’t trimmed it since. The mullet hairstyle, famously described as “business in the front and a party in the back,” gained popularity in the 1980s and early 1990s thanks to celebrities like Billy Ray Cyrus, Mario Lopez, and Patrick Swayze.
Tami surprises many people with her long mullet, as they often don’t realize its length until she turns around. Growing her hair to such extreme lengths hasn’t been easy, but Tami attributes her success to good genes and using a conditioner with Argan oil. Despite its challenges, she manages her lengthy locks by braiding them since her hair is longer than she is. Before achieving the world record, Tami competed in the 2022 US Mullet Championships, where she finished as the runner-up.
