Point 1: Two Indian-origin cabinet ministers of Singapore, Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam and Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, have sued Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s younger brother, Lee Hsien Yang, for defamation. Yang had accused the ministers of receiving preferential treatment from the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) in the rental of state-owned bungalows.
Point 2: The case is scheduled for a hearing on Tuesday (September 5) at 9 AM. An investigation led by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) found no misconduct related to the transactions and stated that the ministers did not benefit from privileged information or receive preferential treatment.
